Sate Maranggi Recipe

Sate Maranggi is a grilled meat dish that originated from the Cianjur region of West Java, Indonesia. It's a flavorful and savory dish that's perfect for a weekend barbecue or a special occasion. Ingredients:
  • 500 grams of beef, cut into cubes
  • 10 bamboo skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
For the marinade:
  • 5 shallots, peeled
  • 3 cloves of garlic, peeled
  • 3 red chilies, seeded
  • 2 teaspoons of coriander seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of sugar
For the peanut sauce:
  • 100 grams of roasted peanuts, finely ground
  • 3 red chilies, seeded and finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, peeled and finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons of sweet soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of tamarind paste
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of water
Instructions:
  • To make the marinade, blend the shallots, garlic, red chilies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, salt, and sugar in a blender until smooth.
  • In a bowl, combine the beef cubes with the marinade. Mix well and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  • Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
  • Skewer the beef cubes onto the bamboo sticks.
  • Brush the vegetable oil over the skewered meat and grill until the meat is cooked to your desired level of doneness, flipping occasionally.
  • To make the peanut sauce, mix the ground peanuts, red chilies, garlic, sweet soy sauce, tamarind paste, salt, sugar, and water in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens.
  • Serve the Sate Maranggi with the peanut sauce and some steamed rice or rice cakes.
